Gravedigger suspended after picture of him posing with an exhumed corpse goes viralA Spanish gravedigger has been suspended after a creepy picture of him posing with an exhumed corpse went viral. The cemetery worker reportedly dug up the body of a man who had died 23 years ago so that his recently deceased wife could be added to the family tomb. But when he opened the crypt, he discovered the man's body had become mummified and was still practically intact.
Rather than break up the body so another corpse could fit into the same space straight away, he decided to contact members of the deceased man's family. The dead man’s nephew and niece arrived – and the woman took a photograph of her dead relative standing next to the gravedigger and her living relation. The niece is then believed to have sent the snap to another family member via messaging service WhatsApp. It then quickly spread and was posted on several different social media sites, reports The Local.
The town hall of Guardamar del Segura, near Alicante, found out about the sick stunt and launched an investigation into its employee. Officials suspended the gravedigger and the case has been referred to the Civil Guard police force. Felipe Aldeguer, an elected official, told ABC the incident was "unpleasant, miserable and timely," but he added the digger "had not acted in bad faith."Source: Lee Moran, The New York Daily News, September 12, 2014.

The dead man looks like something from Night of the Living Dead, but I guess he's supposed to since he's dead. Either he was a very big man or the other two men are small.

I agree that it's weird and creepy to take such a photo but considering a relative of the deceased endorsed this, asked him to pose, and took the photo, it does not seem he did anything that would be considered disrespectful to the family because, again, they asked him to pose. They even circulated the photo as if it were something cute to share! If you ask me, the family is sicker than he is, deciding to pass this photo around. Yes, it was tacky of him to stand by a corpse, but it does not seem he did anything illegal without the family's consent. If he had taken the photo himself and circulated it without their permission, it'd be different, and an invasion of privacy. He didn't even break the body to fit the other body and was just waiting to hear from the family as to what they wished to do, so it seems like he did not mean any disrespect to the body. Maybe they should have reprimanded him, even fined him for acting like a dolt, but suspending him? I don't know.
