Digital Sign Vandalized with Offensive Remark in South Jersey Town
UPPER TOWNSHIP, N.J. – Residents in a South Jersey town are upset after an electronic roadside sign was altered Sunday evening to display an offensive message. The sign was supposed to alert drivers on Route 49 in Upper Township about a change in traffic patterns. Instead, it read: “Assville Next Left."
“That's sinful. That’s not right," one local resident observed.
Upper Township Mayor, Richard Palombo, said it appeared to be an isolated incident and the control box needs to be more secure. “If somebody can break into it and easily change the information on here, it could happen to any town,” he added.
Officials have not indicated whether the box was broken into or left unsecured, the report said. South State Incorporated, the company in charge of the sign, declined to comment.

Stuff like this has happened before in other cities, there was one that was altered to say "zombies coming" or something like that. I think it's a silly childish prank, and certainly not a reason to get riled up.

Several years ago, someone changed a magnetic-letter detour sign outside Jacksonville, Florida. The sign originally read: “Jacksonville Off-ramp Detour” and someone changed it to “Jack-offville Detour.” After that, DOT changed “Off-ramp” to “Exit-ramp.”
