Six months later and no leads in Georgia Decapitation MurdersSix months after the gruesome murders of an elderly couple living along Lake Oconee, the violent crimes remain unsolved. Russell and Shirley Dermond, both in their late 80s, were living in a high-end resort community when they were killed in early May. Neighbors found Mr. Dermond’s decapitated body in his home (above). A fisherman found Mrs. Dermond’s body in the lake days later.
The former lives of the Dermonds have been turned inside out, there’s not a single red flag they were living anything but ordinary lives. So why were they murdered?Decades of detective work have never produced a case more confounding for Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills. “I go to sleep every night thinking about this case ... and I wake up every morning thinking about this case,” Sills says. “And I’m not exaggerating at all.”
In a sea of stacked cardboard boxes, Sill’s desk serves as his island. It’s a place to dig through the lives of the Dermonds. Everyone who has been interviewed has been cleared. There’s still no suspect. But Sills believes it was planned, premeditated and gruesome. Russell Dermond was killed and then beheaded, his body left on the cement floor of his garage. Shirley was killed by blunt force trauma to the head before being weighted down and dropped in the lake. “You can’t make me believe there was any kind of randomness to this crime,” Sills observes.
Reynold’s Plantation, on the shores of Lake Oconee, has been touted as one of the most exclusive neighborhoods in Georgia. Russell and Shirley seemed like an average couple. He golfed. She played bridge. They went to the Lake Oconee Community Church on Sundays. Their expenses were moderate; enemies non-existent. Six months have passed, and the case drives Sills crazy. “Why have I not solved that murder?” he ponders.
The community seems safe. Serene. Even the crime scene was calm: no break-in, nothing stolen, no murder weapon or sign the murders even happened there.
Sills still has hope that somehow the lake, or the home, or the records of the Dermonds’ lives will become a lead – that hope will heat up this case as it now becomes cold. “It bothers me a great deal that someone has committed such a heinous crime and they’re still out there,” he admits.
The sheriff says the Dermonds had good relationships with their three children and grandchildren who live out of state and none appears to have been in Georgia at the time of the murder.
There is a $55,000 reward for information that would solve this case.Source: Catherine Beck, WXIA News, November 11, 2014.

It's strange that they don't have any leads at all. Usually there's at least one suspect, even if it doesn't lead anywhere, but in this case, there doesn't seem to be any clues at all. When it happened, one of the sons said that there might be a Satanic connection, but if there was, the people knew how not to leave any evidence.

I agree, it seems odd, the murder seems odd too (the ages of the victims, their quiet lifestyle, the different causes of deaths and disposal of the victims) and the fact that no evidence exists to suggest that they were ambushed. Who'd want them gone, and why? Sounds like the killer was very angry, as if this was personal, judging by the way he killed and got rid of the victims. I wonder if they ever found Russell's head?

Newbie here.. It has now been seven months since the Dermond's abduction/decapitation/murders and Sheriff Howard Sills has no motive. Seems that this case may be heading for the cold case files.. After following this case closely, researching it for months, and considering many scenarios, opinions, and theories. I have come to the conclusion that the Dermond's son may have instinctively been correct when he said that there may have been cult involvement; * Keith, pictured center left with wife Kathleen and other family members, said: 'The more we think about it, the more it makes sense that this was just some sick individual who randomly targeted them.' He added it could have been the work of a cult www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2628521/Despairing-son-hopes-mother-dead-ease-suffering-week-vanished-husbands-headless-body-1m-home-Georgia-murder-mystery-horror.html#ixzz3Ki1YR8Y5 _________________________ Imo, should be obvious that the perp/s responsible for the Dermond murders/abduction/decapitation have no human emotions, empathy for others, and is a very evil sadistic psychopath. Psychopaths, usually of higher intelligence are very creative, calculating, deflective, and manipulative.. All of these traits are indicated in this heinous crime. The Dermond's son KD said that he believed that his parent's murders were the result of a cult. When I first read this, due to the rarity of homicides by cults, satan worshipers, etc. I thought nothing else about KD's theory...until learning of Sheriff Sills' and the Nawaubian Nation of Moors <Cult> investigation and the eventual prosecution, conviction, and sentencing of Dwight Malachi York to 135 years in Federal Super Max, Florence, CO for 100s of counts of child molestation and RICO. Imo, the Dermonds were random targets and the motive for their murders/abduction/decapitation was retribution for the perceived injustices against their pedophile predator prophet; Dwight MZ York, by the Putnam County Justice System, specifically Sheriff Howard Sills.. Imo, this horrific crime was very well planned, meticulously carried out by forensically aware/paramilitary trained/experienced/organized perp/s, and was meant to terrorize the Reynolds Plantation/Gate Water/Putnam county community.... <Nuwaubian Cult - Eatonton/Putnam County GA> www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqQkBQiAGNswww.youtube.com/watch?v=jPwSciJnNQA

Welcome, wolfscratch, and thanks for posting. I had never heard of the Nawaubian Nation of Moors. There have been some other elderly folks killed, two in Kentucky where I live, and in other states, and a LOT of the murders are unsolved. I've wondered if someone, or maybe a cult, might be targeting elderly people.

Thanx Sam.. Yes, decapitations seem to be more commonplace today than in the past. There are many reasons for this, imo, such as cartels, increase in drug induced deviant behavior<primarily meth>, etc. Meth abuse creates psychopathic personalities, imo. Although I live in GA and follow the news fairly close. I knew of the NC, but did not know the magnitude of just how evil their leader; DMZ York, and many of their followers were. Thought they were re-gifted fruitcakes due to the pyramids ; Egypt West theme park. The NC began as the AAC/Ansaaru Allah Community in Brooklyn, NY about 4 decades ago and were deemed a terrorist org by the FBI. They moved to Eatonton, GA due to being investigated by the FBI/NYPD. They were involved in many violent crimes for decades including arson, bank robbery, drug dealing, and murder<including dismemberment>. The AAC/NC had a security force; 'The Mujahid'.. DMZ York's right hand man Roy Savage; 'The Warrior' was the leader of this well trained paramilitary group. nj.findacase.com/research/wfrmDocViewer.aspx/xq/fac.19900719_0040484.NJ.htm/qxState v. Savage New Jersey Supreme Court Decided: July 19, 1990. STATE OF NEW JERSEY, PLAINTIFF-RESPONDENT, v. ROY SAVAGE, DEFENDANT-APPELLANT On Monday, September 12, 1983, Augustine Arana, a porter at the Projects, was asked to investigate an odor on the twelfth floor. Arana found a large blue suitcase in the hallway, and with the help of another man carried it outside to the dumpster. When the porters threw the suitcase into the dumpster, it opened to reveal the headless torso of a black woman; the hands were missing, and the legs had been severed and were missing from below the mid-thigh. A single finger was later found in the suitcase. Aleida Bonilla, Felix Figueroa, Douglas Robinson and Margie King Guest later identified the man with the suitcase as defendant, Roy Savage. <sniped - read more>

Sam this incident in a suburb of Atlanta, GA was from about two weeks ago; Updated: 8:04 p.m. Friday, Nov. 14, 2014 Police say a baby that was allegedly starved to death led them to discover a woman who had been missing for years. 2wsb.tv/14orGoMThe woman weighed just 59 pounds and was in need of serious medical attention. ______________________________ Nuwaubian Cult Cops: Cult member impregnated daughter, killed another by starvation www.gwinnettdailypost.com/news/2014/nov/14/cops-cult-member-impregnated-daughter-killed/<sniped for Focus> Sweeting’s 2010 case came to the attention of Gwinnett authorities in 2012. According to police, an officer ran her information after a jaywalking stop and found she was listed as a missing person. Eighteen at the time, Sweeting reportedly wasn’t interested in going back to Atlanta. #An officer wrote in a report of the stop that: “I spoke with her mother … a little later in the evening to let her know that her eighteen-year-old daughter appeared in good spirits and in good health, living in a safe environment in Gwinnett County.” #Now, the police don’t believe there was much of anything “safe” or healthy about how she lived.

From what I've read, the Nuwaubian Nation of Moors are a bunch of renegade blacks and in that community, they would have stood out like sore thumbs, which means that they would have had to arrive by boat at night when no one would see them. But even then, how would they have known who lived there? Instead of two elderly people living alone, it could have been a family with several big teenage boys who would have been able to fight back. If members of this cult were responsible, they must have been tipped off, maybe by a yard man or someone else who had done work on the property.

Madeline, read the book ungodly by AJC reporter Bill Osinski. It is eyeopening, the Nuwaubian Nation of Moors are not a bunch of renegade blacks. They are/were very organized. Many NC members were well trained former Law Enforcement and others were recruited from correctional systems/inmates. Six Macon police officers and two Firefighters who called themselves supporters of convicted child molester and Nuwaubian Nation cult-leader Malachi Z. York resigned from the force the day DMZ York was sentenced.... Five of those officers were later hired by the Athens/Clarke County jail as guards where they were later fired for recruiting inmates.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bCKQ4R-masA neighbor saw a man in the Dermonds back yard on Saturday but was unable to provide a description. The lot adjacent is owned by an Atlantan rapper. A simple reverse phone number search would provide their address.. Seems that if a family member, friend, or neighbor/slight acquaintance, etc., of the Dermonds were involved. They would have known about their plans to attend the Kentucky Derby party<rsvp>, and would have likely been concerned that someone would have conducted a timely welfare check to see why they were no shows the night of the party.. The Dermond's home phone number was listed and their address easily obtained. A google map search of their private wooded cul-de-sac address would show the easy access from the lake, etc.. Imo, this heinous crime was carried out by professionally trained assassins, likely paramilitary. It seems obvious to me that the motive was not monetary, but was to send a very clear message, and to produce the intended results which we are witnessing now, seven months later.. wolfscratch, you seem to have taken the time to learn a lot about this case, so I have a question: Could the murders of the Dermonds have a connection to Troy Major, the black man who murdered Mark Dermond in Atlanta during a crack transaction? I looked at a photo of Major on the Georgia Dept. Corrections site and he looks like a rapper wannabe and the type who would join something like the Nuwaubian Nation of Moors.

Possibly Jason, but imo, and from my info this motive has been investigated and ruled out... Dr. York was an accomplished singer, songwriter, producer and musician. Like his father, son Malachi York who is also a musician who ... you look on the back of the album you will see Executive Producer - Jacob York. www.nuwaubianfacts.com/jacob%20york.htm

You said a rapper owned the place next door. He, or some of his visitors, could have provided the info about the Dermonds. Of course, people can find out anything they choose with a little effort, but perhaps the killers had an insider, i.e., someone who lived in the community, or had some other connection to the community, helping them find the perfect victims.
BTW, welcome to the group, wolfscratch.

Thank you Jason. Through my research, I learned that their was a backlash from the Putnam County religious community, among others against DMZ York and the NC. The Dermonds were religious, but there could have been many reasons that the Dermonds may have been targeted.. The cameras were down at the RP/Gate Water Security Gate. I suspect that a ruse may have been used to gain entrance of the Dermond's home.... <sniped - read more> KIDNAPPED MAY 8, 2002 A.D. In 2012, all of DMZ York's federal appeals had been exhausted. Imo, due to the many veiled threats by DMZ York and members of the NC to seek revenge/retribution against Sheriff Howard Sills, the Putnam County Justice System, and the Putnam County community. Imo, the Dermond murders were simply an indirect means to an end for this retribution.. Copied from the Ungodly book by Bill Osinski, page # 137 & #138; www.amazon.com/UnGodly-True-Story-Unprecedented-Evil/dp/1934144134Putnam County Attorney Frank Ford said that the Nuwaubians' campaign of increasing hostility turned out to be their biggest mistake. "It created a negative public reaction, " Ford said. "The more people they added to their 'hit list,' the more people started saying, "These people are nuts; they're nasty people." The nastiest of the Nuwaubian attacks were directed at Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills. He was repeatedly called a racist in the Naubian publications. He received dozens of anonymous death threats. Once Sills was at a downtown mall with his wife and son. He saw a group of men standing nearby, and recognized some of them as being Nuwaubians. He told his wife to take his son and go quickly to their car. In moments, he was surrounded by ten or more of the men, who got as close to him as they could and muttered curses and veiled threats. Sills broke out of the circle and the incident ended without violence. There were times, though, when York prayed that violence would befall Sills. Witnesses later told investigators that York had frequently led Nuwaubians in praying for Sills death. York told his followers that Sills needed to go, because Sills had figured out that York's real plan was to create an autonomous, independent state; as long as Sills was around, he would be an obstacle to that plan. A few times, York would rebuke his followers, according to witnesses, because they had not acted to bring answers to his prayers. York scolded the Nuwaubians, saying that in the old days in Brooklyn, NY, when he prayed for something, someone would demonstrate their loyalty to him by making it happen. But now, York chided, none of his followers was willing to suffer the jail time that might come from eliminating York's enemy. Other times, York would tell his people to hold off on the assassination plan, saying that the crime might be too easy to trace back to the source; 'DMZ York and the NC'..
