So when are you necrophiles going to tell us what happened at the place in Salem where some of you stayed because you chose not to believe what people were telling you?

The place was so awful that I don't know where to begin. First there was both a cat and dog that lived inside. We knew about the cat, but not the dog and we were upset when we found out about it and we debated trying to get rooms at the Salem Waterfront where Lee and Julia were staying. The old lady who runs the place is in her 80s and CRAZY! We told her that we didn't like dogs and that we had asked and were told that there weren't any dogs there. She tried to tell us that the person we were asking meant that there weren't any dogs there at that very minute which was total BS. The house is full of junk, not anything interesting, just pure JUNK that should be thrown in the trash. We were sort of expecting it to be musty because the house is so old, but it was beyond musty, it just plain stunk! The beds were uncomfortable and I had a very hard time sleeping. If I hadn't been so tired the second night, I wouldn't have slept at all. When we first got there and checked in, we sat down in the parlor and when I got upstairs to change to go to dinner, there were dog hairs all over the back of my dress and my dress smelled like DOG! I went downstairs and complained to the woman, not the old fool, but a younger woman and told her about the dog hair and the stink and I wasn't nice about it either because I was PISSED! On Tuesday morning, we were looking forward to a nice breakfast and when we got to the cluttered dining room, there was nothing but a plate of fruit and some frigging muffins that were too dry. Catherine told the woman serving them that they were too dry and the woman said that people usually complimented the food. Anyways, we didn't have any breakfast that morning and were starving by lunch. We were looking forward to experiencing Salem in a house that was there during the Salem witch trials, but the place is such a dump that it was impossible to think about anything but how awful the place was. The house is supposed to be haunted, but we didn't see or feel any ghosts and I think the crazy old lady just made up the ghost stories to drum up business. When we were packing to leave, Catherine told me that I had to find a plastic bag to put my dog stink dress in because it would stink up the car so I went downstairs and told the younger woman that I needed a plastic bag for my dress to keep it from stinking up the car. There were some other people there taking a tour of the house and after they heard me talking about my dress stinking so bad I had to put it in a plastic bag, they pulled me aside and asked if they should stay there or go somewhere else and I told them the truth: Go somewhere else and I recommended the Salem Waterfront Inn. Moral of story: If you go to Salem, do NOT STAY AT THE STEPHEN DANIELS HOUSE!!!!!

What a shame to let such a magnificent, historical place become a pigsty! Hopefully when the woman passes, it will still be standing and someone can take it over and restore it.

Incredible that in order to make a buck, hotels allow smoking and dogs in the rooms. It's so inconsiderate. Sorry you had such an awful experience. I do hope you took pictures of the lighthouses, etc.

It sounds like it could be made into a very nice B&B if someone would buy it, clean it up and keep the dogs out. I'm not sure I would have stayed. I think that I would have checked to see if the other place had any rooms.

You have no one to blame but yourselves. Several people told you not to stay at that place in Salem. Next time, maybe you'll listen.
